WHAT'S THE "SPELLING BEE"?
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR THESE STUDENTS YOU ARE ABOUT TO KNOW?
Reading one of our students messages in the course forum, I have remebered about this important event for Primary schools in this month so here you have some information about it.

A spelling bee is a competition where contestants, usually children, are asked to spell English words. The concept is thought to have originated in the United States.[1] Today, National Spelling Bee competitions for English are held in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Indonesia, among others. Similar institutions are also found in numerous other countries such as France's "La dictée" and Poland's "Dyktando". They are rare to nonexistent in countries whose national language follows more phonetic spelling rules, as compared to the largely historical spelling of the English and French languages.

I really loved this post, it brings me good memories. At school, when I was at Junior Jigh, I used to train with the Spelling Bee team. I really liked it and it helped me a lot for improving my spelling, of course, but also to learn to write better.

Sometimes I still catch myself spelling words just for fun!!

Regards, nad I'll really miss this blog, snifff!!

  2. The first time I watch this kind of compettion was in a film and I have to admit that at first I didn't find the sense of it. It is a very strange competition if you aren't familiar with it.

I will miss this blog too.

    Cheers,
    Cristina.

This is first time I see this sort of context. I think it has to be very useful to kids to learn words and vocabulary. Surely teachers are delighted with it.
    Cheers and nice summer!

These contests should be done in every school and in every language, and I think SPECIALLY in Spanish. It's awful how children don't write correctly!
