ARE WE EATING HEALTHY? DO WE HAVE THE TIME TO COOK PROPERLY?
DO WE GET ENOUGH EXERCISE? ARE WE TOO TIRED FOR IT? WHERE?

Okay, sometimes you don't have time to cook properly, especially if you're rushing out to meet friends or have clubs and societies meetings. You can still throw together a snack like beans on toast or an omelette without too much stress before it's time to head out the door. http://www.thesite.org/healthandwellbeing/fitnessanddiet/food/howtocook

I read some time ago that the Burger King chain and the others similars, dued to the economic crisis were having an increase in its benefits because they offer very cheap food. They were having an offer of one hamburger one euro. I think since women are working not only at home we are not cooking as good as our grannies did. They had the whole morning to prepare the meal but we don´t. So we arrive at home after being working the whole morning and the less we want is spending the whole evening cooking, well I am speaking since my point of view. So of course we buy pre-cooked food that only the micro-waved is needed. Its not a healthy way of eating but from time to time it saves you the day.

  2. Paloma!!!! Straight to the point!!!
That's why it's so important to share Oliver's views: we all should learn how to cook healthy, good food specially quick, seasonal recipes (10 recipes at least, he says)and make the most of healty snacks we have forgotten about in Spain : nuts (hazelnuts, kernels -almonds-, walnuts, etc), pickels, lovely black, green stuffed, etc olives, etc. etc. and our tapas. Some tapas are healthy, at least healthier than burguers and alike. Count the calories and compare!!!

Well, I don't know if people have just stopped to think about what a hamburguer is.
Everyone always says, well thats junk, it's not healthy... But have you ever seperated the ingridients on a plate?
    - Tomato
    - Onion
    - Cheese (if you like it with cheese)
    - Lettuce
    - Meat
    - Bread

What's the matter with them? Aren't they good?
I now that you can't eat this EVERYDAY, but the thing is that you say, "Hey let's go and have a burger", and everybody says "No, thats not healthy".
If you go out just once or twice a month, you really think you are not eating helthy meal?
Then let's talk about candies, how many times a week children get candy?

    Just think of that.

  4. Well, I think just like Paloma that fast food can save the day sometimes, if you have a husband and a children that eat good, at home. Unfortunately that isn't my case.
Until some months ago, I worked more than 10 hours per day and the true is that it was quite difficult combining work with cookery. I used to cook some meals on Saturday morning especially first course that it is the most complicated because in my family don't like pre-cooked meals. Second course are more easier to do straight away.

On the other hand I think just like Cristina Tejera that if you eat one or two times a month a hamburguer or a pizza, you aren't eating badly. My problem is that I am the only person in my family that like this things. Neither my husband nor my three children like hamburguer or pizza or meatball which are sold in the supermarket so I have to do it by myself. Some times this is a nuisance!!

As regard the video where appear the blond girl, I was astonished. I don't understand how the United States is the place where there are more overweight people with so many variety of vegetables. I suppose they don't watch Oliver's program.

    Cheers,
    Cristina.

  5. Cristina Tejera, very good remark, I'd say this is the key for fast food, sweets, sugar, pizza etc. Great!
Cristina González, may be you have found another key: we can't cook properly, seasonal, quick but healthy food. As Oliver says, ten recipes would be more than enough. This could solve many problmes and save many lives but Who, where, how ...

I also think that to eat pizza is not bad. It depends on the ingredients. There are a lot of vegetarian pizzas. Anyway, I don't like to cook and I don't have too much time to do it, but I have the chance to have a husband who cooks for me ;-)

  7. After seeing the videos of modern marvels about food, I understand better why the English chef, Jamie, was so passionate when he was explaining the risks of a bad diet. But the reason of its popularity is clearly answered in the video about the 'Cold Cuts', when the person who is eating says that it's delicious.

I'm sorry I don't quite agree with "what it is about burgers" I think the problem is not the ingredients such as tomato, lettuce, onions which of course are very healthy and recommended, to me it is the type of bread (too much sugar added) and the fat in the meat whose quality, by the way, I have my doubts about.
Once in a blue moon I guess should not be too much of a problem, however we too often ressort to fast food (not only burgers but all types of prepared food) justifying lack of time.
Anyway, I am aware that being a vegetarian my opinion is a bit biased. I am for a more natural diet, don't they say we are what we eat!! if so, isn't it worthwhile give it a try!!
It goes without saying that I fully respect everybody's life stile, this is just my opinion.

  11. Thanks Sandra and Lucía Sanz!
I think Carmen has the last word: sugar, that is the clue, why do we find sugar in every ingredient list, no matter what we have in our hands?
And, of course, we can eat anything but never the same everyday. We have a wide range of food to eat, we must use it.
